Artist of the week Johnny Rodney (@JohnnyRodney)

TP: What is your stage name? and how did you get it?
Artist: My stage name is Johnny Rodney. It’s my first and middle name. Growing up, most people knew me as Rod or Rodney. When I got older and got into the work force, people knew me as Johnny. Johnny Rodney represents my entire life and growth as a person and an artist
TP: What made you want to take on this profession?
Artist: My love for music is something I could not deny. I have always done it, and even when I tried to focus on other things, it always found a way to stay in my life. I decided to take it on full speed. I never want to look back and wonder what could have been.
TP: How has the industry treat you thus far?
Artist: So far it has been fun, and a great learning experience.
TP: What have you learned about it? And what do you like/dislike?
Artist: It takes money to make money. You have to invest in yourself. You have to present yourself professionally. At the end of the day, it’s about the music. You have to make hot music and present it correctly, and have your business together.
TP: If you could change one thing in this industry, what would that be?
Artist: I just wish the industry took Alabama artists more seriously.
TP: What are the current projects you have out or coming up?
Artist: Working on two mixtapes and a compilation mixtape for my label
TP: What’s your goal(s) for the project(s)?
Artist: Just wanna create a great buzz and do some great numbers and get my name out there as an artist and a label.
TP: What Independent Artist you see out their making a name for themselves? What is it about that Artist you like?
Artist: Young Don (Birmingham, AL) King of Da Bama (Smith Station, AL) These guys are both great artists. They have great deliveries and lyrics and make hot music. They are a good look for the state.
TP: Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years?
Artist:I would like to be a Major artist, signed to major deal or be a large independent.
TP: What are your plans to accomplish that?
Artist: I have to work and grind hard. You can never stop learning in this industry. I will continue to learn all I can. At the end of the day, it’s all about your music. We gotta make hits!
TP: Who would you like to work with in the future; it can be an Artist, Producer, Model, DJ, etc.? Why you choose those people?
Artist: T-Pain because of his creativity and hit making ability. I would like to work with B.O.B simply because of his range and ability level.
TP: Before you go would you like to give others just starting any advice or suggestion(s)?
Artist: You have to present yourself properly. It takes money to make money! Never quit.
