Artist of the Week: Rico Paysos (@RicoPaysos)

Posted in Artist of the week on January 30th, 2011 by Tawag Promotions

TP: What is your stage name and what made you stick with that name?

FT: Rico Paysos, I was given the nickname Rico at a young age cause of my ethnicity, I kept it and added Paysos later on, I thought it was catchy and represented my Latino heritage and my love of money, cause everybody that’s anybody knows money makes the world go round. #4daluvofmoney

TP: How would you describe your style of music?

FT: I leave that for the listener, I hear comparisons to many people. I guess I’m a mixture of Eazy E, Plies, Fabolous,T.I, and you took they styles and lyrics mixed em up in a pot of ciroc, eight 6 packs of 4 loko, and blew an ounce of sugar kush. There you go, you got Paysos, The Lord of the Swerve.

TP: If any, who were some of the people that influence you to pursue music? Why?

FT: It was a hobby, that became a passion, I just always enjoyed writing and poetry, rhythms, thats my shit. Everyone that heard me rap when I was like 13 told me I should go in, I mean you never know what can happen, I developed a fanbase and supporters, now I do it for them!

TP: Now that you’re in the “Industry” what do you think of it so far?

FT: The Industry is interesting to say the least, its a dog eat dog world, either you going to get used or be useless. The game aint change, its a business, business is about commerce, commerce is about money. #4daluvofmoney

TP: What do you see missing? Beside your talents.

FT: The game isnt missing me, I’m right here, as a hip hop fan, I think there is a lot of good music out right now, hip hop still has a major impact and influence on the 18-34 demographic. I believe that if you feel something is missing, go find it, because there are a lot of artist in the street and on the net offering themselves to potential fans.

TP: In your own opinion what do you think needs to be done to improve what you see missing in the “Industry”?

FT: I think twitter is changing a lot of trends in music, as entertainers, labels, execs, now have a direct line of communication where fans can really vent and speak about how they’re feeling regarding the music. For a long time NY rappers were getting no love on Power or hot 97 now post the twitter explosion you see more NY artist getting spins.

TP: What do you think a lot of Indie Artist are missing to take their talent to the next level?

FT: Scared money don’t make money! that’s all I got to say if you won’t invest in your own producer/brand nobody else will. Believe in your product, people will believe in you, maybe…unless your just trash, then save your money!

TP: What project(s) you currently working on?

FT: I have a lot of things in the work, “Battle of the Sexes”with Tawag and Dj Schemes, “My LifeTime TimeLine” with Dj Johnny Juice of Public Enemy,  Im working on a Southern Smoke with DJ Smallz, as well as an album probably by third quarter next year.

TP: Who are three Indie and Main Stream Artist you would love to collab with?

FT: I have a long list of people I’d like to work with, but I’m going to keep that to myself, I’m going to keep pushing, and create a product that the artist I look up too, will want to be a part of and take it from there.

TP: What is one thing you would like the Readers to know about you, that they may not know?

FT: If want to know me, hit me up on @ricopaysos on that twitter, I’m a cool dude, swerve with me

TP: What would you like to say to your current and future Haters?

FT: keep up the good work, I appreciate you, word 2 the swerve…

TP: Where can the Readers find out more about you and hear more of your music?

FT: www.ricopaysos.com, facebook.com/ricopaysos, twitter.com/ricopaysos

TP: Anyone you would like to shout out?

FT: 4daLuvOfmoney Inc, Groove, Bamz, Briccs, Splash, Ray, My P.E family, Chuck D and Johnny Juice, My 730 Dips Family, Freekey Zekey, Capone, the entire Dipset(Skull Gang, Byrd Gang, UN) all my fans, and supporters. My producers, Jomekka, Street Blaze, Joe Lindsay, and my brothas from the Notorious, all the beautiful women that support my music I appreciate you. Keep swervin with me, if I forgot you, lets blame on the kush and not my heart.
